3x5: here we are now, entertain us.

We made it, miraculously without a hitch (something my stand-by way of traveling seldom guarantees)! We interrupt this Paris program to bring you to lovely and sunny Los Angeles! I know many of you read this blog for snippets of daily life in the City of Light but I do hope you will check in while I share fun bits, a series of 3x5 postcards, starting with our arrival in Hollywood.

So I totally forgot how fun this place is! We've only been here a few days and I find myself amused and amazed by how quirky everything is. I can't believe that there was a time in my life when this was just the norm.

Aurélien so far has had two celeb sightings...and they have been French. So doesn't count. We're hoping for a real American sighting...we're holding out for something big! Since LA has proven to have a somewhat large French population, there goes my childish game of playing the "Penis Game" and screaming other profanities in French, relishing over the fact that no one understands. People will understand so I guess I have to save this game for Long Island...

Here are some of our first impressions of the town...I'm loving Aurel's reaction to all of this.

For an additional 35 bucks, our server will read us a poem
...and hug us.
This is not at all a joke.

This totally trumps Mind Your Own Beeswax.

Five different flavors of toothpicks?
Why not?

My friends from last summer followed me to LA!
Hey, guys!

For those of you who are on Instagram, please feel to follow my adventures as I will be updating more regularly there.

    1. Hi Quyen! Thanks for your comment and for leaving your blog address!

We have already left but the next time we're there (which I think will be an annual event because Aurel LOVED California!), I'll definitely reach out for some local tips!

      Thanks again!

  2. Well OK You talked me into finally checking out Instagram! Love your shot of Canters. I visited them years ago and still think of them at times! Good luck with the celeb sightings. I saw several celebs when I went to a see a stand-up comic who used to be on SNL. It was Norm Macdonald, so his former cast members were in the audience, sitting just a few tables from us! This was years ago, of course. Hope you get to the Santa Monica farmer's market. They had the best strawberries I've ever tasted in my years on this earth. And Urth Caffe! I envy you right now. Must get back to LA.

    1. Hi Madeleine!

So, are you just loving Instagram?? I've been on it for a little over a month and am obsessed! Twitter and Facebook who? For me, it's all about "the gram"! ; ) Thanks for following me! What is your name? I'd love to follow back. : ) And yes, Canter's rules.

We meant to go to Urth Caffe but kept getting our coffee at Tart, the cafe in our hotel or a local fave, the Coffee Bean. We didn't have enough time to hit up all of the haunts for eats, but on our next trip we will definitely hit up Urth!

    1. Hey Deb! We ended up going to Malibu. Time was limited so we couldn't hit up all the spots, but we did do the Malibu Pier which was a nice "starter kit" to SoCal for Aurel!

Deb, are you saying that if I read a poem to you and hug you, you won't give me 35 bucks? Tough crowd!

Thank you again for your message both in English and en Français! : ) Je suis impressionée.

    1. I wonder what a kiss would cost. Good question. The server thought the 35 dollar hug was also a little weird so I don't think a smooch was on the table, but I should have asked out of curiosity. Pourquoi pas?

I hope you do make it back to the States, just for the reverse culture shock alone, it's totally worth it!
