springtime of my life.

Word on the street is that it's spring. Ha! You could have fooled me. I don't know about you guys but I'm still wearing my winter coat, scarf and pom-pom mittens. But hey, I'm not complaining, March has always been an iffy month. It's never been guaranteed that once March 20th rolls around we rip off our winter duds in an act of defiance, slip into gauzy spring dresses and dance in the field like were in a Marc by Marc Jacobs perfume ad.

Although the season of awakening is taking its winter nap a little longer than most of us would like, here is my annual playlist* celebrating the sun that hopefully is upon us. And p.s Paris, you owe us an awesome summer. Last year's was a total joke. Just sayin'.

*A last minute addition is my current freakout, the Bowie-esque Down on Serpent Street by Poni Hoax that was sort of introduced to me by my three year old student Thomas (his dad works in music).

A special thank you to the lovely Heather in Lost in Arles for including my grandmother in her post last week and for all of your kind words.

  1. The snow and arctic winds here are belying that whole spring thing too... Maybe I'll investigate that mix and see if it encourages things along!

  4. If it's spring, I will eat my winter hat and fuzzy gloves that I can't take out of my jacket pocket. Gah.

We were walking through the city yesterday and it felt okay, so we decided to stop and have a beer at the Easter market. While we were sitting there, the wind kicked up and I swear that there were tiny little ice chunks in my beer. It's almost the end of March, and this is ridiculous!

    1. It's all about the wind. That's what makes it feel so much colder than it is. On my way to work this morning I was getting whipped by wind blasts that were like turning street corners to hit me! It can't stay like this forever..my guess is we have one more week. Here's hoping!

  5. Gosh, you are so welcome. I will mention her as often as you like because both her talent and your story are amazing. Not to mention your talent too. :)
Can not WAIT to discover your list tomorrow in the morning. Something tells me I am going to have an awesome Monday AM jam...
    :)

    1. Thank you so much Heather for this comment. It broke me out of a slight winter funk. : )

I hope you liked the playlist. I tried to mix it up a bit while playing on psychedelic references that I so much associate with spring. I guess I really do want to dance in the field like a Marc by Marc ad!

  6. Hello from Long Island! I am watching you on tv from Southampton and looked you up and found your blog.
I am glad things are working out for you, I've read you are planning your wedding.
I was in East Williston yesterday. :)
    Best of luck to you!

    1. Hi Kathleen!

Thank you so much for looking me up and commenting! I hope you liked the episode, we had so much fun doing it.

Yes, I'm planning my wedding with Aurelien (although he has a different name on the blog dating back to when it was anonymous) and it's been a trip. We definitely do things differently in the States!

      Thank you again for commenting!

  7. Not much different across the English Channel. Snow has brought the place to a halt the past few days, but the worst thing has been the bitter biting wind. Makes it feel about minus 6.....and they are telling us it will last till after Easter! Last year we were having a heatwave!

Thanks for the music.......look forward to listening.

    Love Denise

    1. Yeah, it's been really windy here too! That's the worst because it's not that cold until you get smacked with an icy wind! Oh spring, please come already....

I remember last year's warm late March and the year before too! I foolishly thought it would always be like that...

Hopefully we just have one more week of this.

  9. P.S. Spring has sprung in The LPV! Sunny blue skies and the birds are chirping their morning song. Don't hate me.

    1. I would have hated you a few days ago reading this because from what I hear it's still quite nippy in Paris. But here in NYC, it's sunny and mild...still coat weather but not like Paris! Enjoy your spring cleaning! I'm sure you'll find some treasures, I know I always do!

  10. first of all..such lovely handwriting...tres gentile.

and most of all..OH LA LA...come on...one of my favorties and I didn't think anyone knew that song!! so now I'll have to tell you my OH la la story...
back in the 70's (man)I was lucky enough to see the rolling stones at a small club in toronto called the el mocombo and was sitting right at the front face to face with Ronnie Wood the whole night...so naturally we got to talking during the breaks as you do and I kept bugging him to tell Mick that you want to sing Oh la la...he was so charming and laughed and said.."I can't do that"..(true story).I just loved that song all through high school...

    I wish that I knew what I knew now...when I was younger.

    good one!

    1. Thanks Deb! This is what ten years in a NYC parochial school where penmanship was factored into your grade will do. I've swirled it up since those days.

Oh La La is one of my favorite songs. A hidden classic, you know? We wanted to chose it for our wedding song actually, but we chose another one.

What a great story Deb!! How was the rest of the show? Is the El Mocombo really small?
