Strawberry Fields For Ella.

I'm back in New York to prepare for my much dreaded rendez-vous at the French consulate. When I'm not photocopying and chasing documents from administrators who have an aversion to answering e-mails, particularly mine, I'm spending time outside doing tranquil things like crafting, working on projects and playing with the litter of kittens that were just born under my mom's deck. Yes, I craft from time to time. Don't laugh.

I'm enjoying my time outside but damn it's hot here! It is so scorching hot that you're not going to believe it when I say that I do not want, I repeat do not want wine or any alcoholic beverage. For real, it's blazing hip hop and R&B here.

To kick off summer on the east coast and to cool off in this hot, hot, heat, I came up with my very first Virgin Ella CoCocktail! That's the only time you will see those two words together..no not Ella and Cocktail. Come on.

Here's what you'll need:

Strawberry Fields For Ella
5 - 10 strawberries
2 -3 sprigs of fresh mint
1 cup of non-fat vanilla yogurt
1 oz. sparkling water
1 scoop of ice
1 Japanese paper fan
1 trashy gossip magazine (Star if you're in the US, Voici if you're in France)
1 pair of fierce shades

Take the strawberries...

the mint...

...and chop them up.

Toss them in the blender with a cup of low-sugar vanilla yogurt, the sparkling water and a scoop of ice.
Blend for two minutes.

Pour in a fabulous glass and add a sprig of mint for garnish.
Now for the important part: Soak in the sun with a trashy magazine, Japanese fan, fierce sunglasses and enjoy this sparkling fruity cocktail while dishing on the latest dirt...
The TomKat divorce.
Can you believe it?! Okay yes, we all can, but still...
So juicy.

Stay cool everyone!

  1. Mmm looks yummy! And it's been so long since I've read a gossip mag, I'm out of touch! At some point, they seem to have replaced all the stars I used to know with teenagers?

    1. Hahaha yes! My mom and I say the same thing. You can hear her saying "Who the hell is Selena Gomez?" and then ferociously turning the page. I only know the classics, and of course only read to see the fashion pics!

But the hot gossip is the Tom Cruise/Katie Holmes divorce! I say cue the credits on this sham relationship, and put the kids back in the prop closet! Ha!

  2. Ooh good luck with the consulate--it shivers me timbers just to think about it...And it is hot as hades here in Provence--hence the 'bib' of rosé is in the fridge et voila! Not quite as healthy as your choice but it does the trick...

    1. Aye, yes, my appt. I'm not looking forward to it but have fun plans after so at least I have that to look forward to!

I'm loving this hot weather! I'm glad you are getting some of it down in Provence. I feel so hydrated and healthy from all the fruit I'm noshing on. Once I get used to it, the wine will be back! Not to worry! I can't go too long without one of life's greatest pleasures! : )

      Thanks for commenting!

  3. yum! have you encountered any Plougastel strawberries in the markets in Paris? It's the next town over from us and said to have the best strawberries in the country (which commands prices 2-3 euros above other berries), but I didn't know if they were locally known or not. You know how the French have a lovely way of saying something in their city is the best / oldest / longest / etc., in all of France.

    1. No, what are these strawberries? Are they the teeny tiny ones that are bursting with flavor? I found those when I was in Spain and tried to bring them back to France but ended up eating them on the way to the airport.

Is that what you're talking about? If not, what makes these berries better than the others? I'm curious now.

    1. Good luck to you too! They make me feel like a criminal when I'm there! Are you going to the NY one? They're notorious for being the toughest consulate in the States. I remember my first time doing this.

Enjoy your time in the States!!!

  5. Gorgeous! And I just bought a blender this weekend! And have strawberries and our own homegrown mint. Although I'm a fan of Public as the French trashy mag... And I love the TomKat gossip... i feel like the celebs just don't do anything interesting anymore... they only have babies with too many names. Good luck at your appt and can't wait to have you back! xxxx

    1. Oooh make it and tell me what you think! The mint and sparkling water add a refreshing touch, giving it a little kick.

Yes any mag will do..Ooops, Public, Voici..they all look the same! Omg, the TomKat dramz! I so called it. She couldn't handle "that church lifestyle" longer than 5 years. I can't blame her. I'm not putting the name of their religion in my comment in fear they will come after me!!

    1. Yep, the no visa/right to work/no job/no apartment sitch hinders just a tad on my life in Paris. LOL. We're sorting all of that out this summer! This is the final trip back.

I'm happy to be back here. It was so cold in Paris! Here, I'm relaxing like I'm on vacation and getting together a container of furniture to bring back to Paris while Seb looks for our dream home!

Stay cool! Ah, it really is summer time. Cue the Will Smith song!

Gooooood luck for your consulate date -- I'll of course be thinking good thoughts and crossing my fingers, toes and lot that the consulate gods look down upon you favourably (they will).

And yum yum on the smoothie, will try it with sparkling water next time!
