Day 265: Share Ma Vie Française.

Greeting Card by Anna Bond

So how did this whole French thing start? Why did I decide to learn French? Why did I move to Paris? C'est quoi cette histoire?!?

Don't you want to know even more about me than you already do? In the event that you do, my first article as a contributor on Ma Vie Française is hot off the press (feel the steam rising off the printer)...

Paris, that sweet monster

  1. Congratulations on your article! I rushed right over to "Ma Vie Francaise" as soon as I saw your tweet! Thanks for sharing the prequel to your life in Paris with us. It just goes to show that guidance counselors don't always know what they're talking about.

  2. Congrats! Ooh, you have a Vespa, I'm jealous! French people are always asking me why I learned French since it's "useless". I usually respond that it's "assez utile quand on habite en France, quand même" ;)

    3. wow how rude ? how dare he/she correcting EllaCoquine?
He/she must not be French ?! it would be too "cliché"!
I propose to block this person and sure all of us your fans would agree!
Anyway, I really loved your article, and it makes me think that you're about to change dimension in your writings, soon we'll be taking about a book!

    4. Hmmm a language spoken by at least 300 million people all over the world, an official language of the UN, the International Red Cross, the OECD and most international organizations, and one of the two official languages of all UN Tribunals... Useless indeed.

    5. @Gabe - Yes, this person SHOULD be blocked!! Casse-toi! :P !!!! Don't mess with a girl who has a broken heater in -7 weather, a mouse lurking around the flat and who is still suffering from jetlag!!

I'm glad you liked the article, thank you very much. Everyone's support means so much to me. :)

@Duchess - LOL! I just KNEW that that was going to piss you off! How do I know you so well?!

In the States, I hear more and more how "foreign" language is becoming less of a priority and if you "have" to take a language, you might as well take Spanish. My good friend Jean speaks Japanese and he was told a million times how dumb it was that he chose that language over Spanish or to refine his English. Some people just don't get it...

    6. Didn't Romney just get flak for speaking French?

In a recent federal election campaign in Canada, the former liberal leader Michael Ignatieff, who's a respected Harvard scholar and highly praised producer of documentaries for the BBC, fell victim to a smearing campaign by the Tories who labelled him "anti-Canadian" for having spent a large part of his career abroad and for favouring gauffrettes and espresso over regular coffee and doughnuts!
And by smearing campaign, I mean an actual series of ads on television... pathetic and ludicrous don't begin to describe this whole undertaking!

    1. Thank you Sara Louise!!

      I think you're right...I am supposed to be here. : )

I jumped on the language thing just a little later than everyone else, but hey..I did it! Maybe it's why I appreciate it as much as I do, because it was never forced upon me and in fact taken away from me. Is it a case of I wanted something I couldn't have? Perhaps, but either way, I say good!

  7. Congrats on the article! I have been reading your blog, I started at the beggining and am loving it! I enjoy reading your blog everyday!
It's so nice to read about how well things can work out (with all of life's ups and downs), I have recently been dreaming of going to Paris for a year, but haven't quite figured it all out yet (money, the fact that I do not speak French, little things like that..^_^)
I know this is a long comment, so I guess I will end it by saying that I love your writing and look forward to catching up!
